A word from Pastor Prabhakar Rao:
We praise and thank God for your loving concern towards the suffering lepers. Dear sister, you have seen and heard about the suferings of the lepers. Here I write you about moving them from that place to another.
Yesterday I had been to the lepers they said they should start the work of building construction and when the work is done upto the level of foundation then the government would continue the work. But it is very expensive. Before that they should move from their home and put some thatched sheds in the place which was located for the lepers.
Fifteen houses are to be constructed there. For that we have to buy some palm leaves, bamboo sticks, wooden beams. Then all these material should be taken to that place by bullock carts or tractors. and then we must arrange labours to construct the houses. I roughly calculate that material cost, moving cost, and labouring cost per one house will be between 1800-2500 rupees. This is my rough calculation.
Heart of God International Ministries is committed to do as much as possible to make this move as easy as possible for the lepers. It is unfortunate that the government is forcing them to move, making them find a way to build their houses when they have no hands or feet and live on next to no income. It is our understanding that they receive 60 rupees/month as a govenment "pension" ... that's equivalent to $1.50/month per person.
You can help ...
- You can pray for them, for the smooth transition, for provision for them, and that these people would not be further traumatized through this transition.
- You can help financially ... a donation of any size will make a difference.
- You can share their needs with your friends, family, church members, prayer groups, etc., asking for prayer and asking for help to provide for their housing, food, clothing, etc.
The needs these people have are great. But the good news is that we found them to be well-cared for spiritually with the constant involvement of Pastor Probakkah Rao as he and spiritual leaders from his church continue to meet with them, pray for them, and minister the Word of God to them.
